Concerned Parents
Association Uganda (CPA-Uganda) is an indigenous
independent Non Governmental Organisation concerned with the
plight of children affected by armed conflict in Northern
Uganda.
CPA-Uganda was
spontaneously formed by a group of parents in 1996 as a result
of massive abduction of children by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA),
operating in Northern Uganda. Formation of CPA was sparked off
immediately after the abduction of 139 schoolgirls of St. Mary’s
College Aboke in the night of the 34th Independence
Anniversary of the Republic of Uganda on October 10th
1996. CPA-Uganda is registered with the National NGO Board (Reg.
No. S.5914/2417) as a local Non Governmental Organisation with
five District Branches in Kitgum/Pader,
Gulu, Apac,
Lira and Liason Office in
Kampala. The issue, which the parents
thought, would take a short time and the children would return
home has taken long with little hope in the horizon. Abduction
has continued unabated.

CPA-Uganda is primarily a grass root Advocacy
organisation whose mission statement is:
A Child Focused Organisation Devoted To
Promotion Of Peace And Social Stability Of Children Affected By
War In Uganda Through Advocacy And Psychosocial Support.
Founders do not see CPA-Uganda simply as a
service provider, but much more as an agency for advocacy
seeking for immediate release of abducted children and further
assisting people to self-realise the plight of War Affected
Children and how those problems are connected to instability &
peace in Northern Uganda. Hence CPA-Uganda’s role is of an
educator, a catalyst and a counsellor to the communities
preaching the simple message that “you have a role to play in
ensuring peace and protection for children”. |
